Integrating 3-phase AT-NPC circuitry into a single package to reduce equipment size

Tokyo, April 17, 2013 - Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. (TSE:6504) today announced the release of the IGBT Module Series for AT-NPC 3-level 12-in-1.

1. Purpose

Fuji Electric originally developed an advanced T-type neutral point clamped (AT-NPC) 3-level circuit system1 in February 2010 that significantly reduces power loss, and in February 2011, it released insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) modules2 that employ this circuitry.

The IGBT Module Series for AT-NPC 3-Level 12-in-1 released today by Fuji Electric contain essential circuitry to drive power electronic equipment in a single package. The modules enable reductions in the size of power electronic equipment such as inverters and uninterruptible power system (UPS) equipment.


2. Product Features
(1) Size reduction of power electronic equipmentIGBT Module Series for AT-NPC 3-level 12-in-1
Integrating 3-phase AT-NPC circuitry into a single package to reduce equipment size
  Contains essential circuitry for three-phase power electronic equipment in a single module (instead of three separate modules) taking up 60% less mounting space than using a combination of conventional modules.
   
(2) Significantly low power loss
  Integrates an AT-NPC 3-level conversion circuit realized with Fuji Electric's proprietary reverse-blocking IGBT (RB-IGBT) technology reducing power loss by 50%.3
   
(3) Two types of terminal pins available
  Provides product lineups equipped with solder pin or press-fit pin depending on customer's assembly line.

*3. Compared with 2-level IGBT under the following conditions: 20kVA inverter operating at 7kHz carrier frequency, 700V power supply, and 30A output current (effective value).


About 3-level Conversion Circuit and RB-IGBT

The 3-level conversion circuit reduces switching loss because of half of the power supply voltage in output swing by setting 3-level output voltage compared with the ordinal 2-level circuit. Furthermore, it reduces conduction loss by using Fuji Electric's proprietary RB-IGBTs, which eliminate reverse blocking diodes. These improvements significantly reduce power loss and achieve high efficiency power conversion.
