Tokyo, August 20, 2014 - Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. (TSE:6504) ("FE"), headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and led by President, Michihiro Kitazawa, is pleased to announce the release of a new vending machine (hereafter VM) bound for the Chinese and Asian markets and its intention to strengthen the VM business in the region.
1. Background
In Japan, there are 5 million plus VMs (of which 2.6 million plus are beverage/food VMs) in use at present.
Meanwhile, a few tens of thousands of VMs are in use in China and Southeast Asia, where the need for automatic vending is increasing in the retail industry for economic reasons, including rise in wages, based on the economic growth. In addition, VMs as "unattended stores" during the night are attracting attentions mainly for use in factories, office buildings and hospitals.
In the VM business, we have set forth "business expansion in China and Asia" as a priority policy and have released Twister, a VM for the Chinese and Asian markets.
We intend to make use of our engineering strength and operational know-how as a leading manufacturer of VMs to accelerate the development of the VM market and business expansion in China and Asia.
2. New VM: Twistar
Twistar is a vending machine for indoor use in places including offices, factories, schools and hospitals. While these intended facilities usually have retail stores, consumers have a need to purchase articles outside of the business hours of the stores. To meet this need, we have developed unique machines accommodating a wide variety of goods including beverages, food and commodities.
To fulfill the local specification requirements and provide timely deliveries, Twistar will be manufactured by Fuji Electric Manufacturing Co., Ltd., (Thailand) in a new factory built in Thailand last year.
Technical Features
・Accommodates up to 42 article types
Four types of racks (shelves to store articles) can be interchangeably used according to the article size and shape, and the temperature can be switched between three temperature zones (ambient temperature, strong cooling and mild cooling). One machine is capable to sell 42 types* of articles including beverages (cans, plastic (PET) bottles, etc.), food (sweets, instant noodles, etc.) and commodities (towels, toothbrushes, CDs, etc.).
*When the selection only consists of canned beverages
・Prevents article deformation and damage and brings speedy delivery
Purchased articles are not dropped but are pushed out of the rack and taken into the delivery elevator to be delivered in a speedy manner. This prevents deformation of or damage to articles.
・Uses anti-frost front glass
Twistar has a built-in heater for preventing dew condensation. This quickly eliminates dew condensation and prevents frosting even if the front glass is opened and closed during cooling.
